Community Guidelines
Last updated: August 27, 2026
Western Joint Electrical Training Society (“Western JETS” or “WJETS”) is committed to providing a safe, respectful, professional, and productive environment for everyone who participates in our training programs and services.
These Community Guidelines apply to interactions connected with Western JETS, including:
- in-person training;
- online classes and meetings;
- online learning systems;
- member accounts;
- website forms and communications;
- correspondence with instructors, staff, and training coordinators; and
- other activities organized or administered by Western JETS.
Most of these guidelines come down to a simple expectation: treat other people with respect and contribute to an environment where everyone can learn safely and effectively.
Be Respectful
Treat instructors, staff, other participants, partner organizations, and visitors with reasonable courtesy and professionalism.
Disagreement is allowed. Questions are encouraged. People may have different levels of experience, different approaches to a problem, or different opinions about industry issues.
Criticize an idea or approach without attacking the person presenting it.
Harassment, bullying, intimidation, threats, deliberate humiliation, or persistent personal abuse are not acceptable.
Respectful and Inclusive Training
Western JETS wants training environments where participants can learn and participate without discrimination or harassment.
Do not attack, demean, exclude, threaten, or harass someone because of characteristics such as race, colour, ancestry, place of origin, religion, sex, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age, disability, family or marital status, or other characteristics protected by applicable law.
Good-natured conversation and humour are part of many workplaces and classrooms, but participants are expected to recognize when conduct becomes disrespectful, disruptive, discriminatory, or unwelcome.
Safety Comes First
Many Western JETS programs involve electrical equipment, tools, machinery, practical exercises, heights, personal protective equipment, or other activities where unsafe behaviour can cause serious harm.
Participants must:
- follow instructor directions;
- comply with applicable safety procedures;
- use required personal protective equipment;
- use tools and equipment appropriately;
- respect restricted areas and equipment;
- report unsafe conditions when they become aware of them; and
- avoid behaviour that creates an unnecessary risk to themselves or others.
Horseplay, deliberate misuse of equipment, bypassing safety controls, or intentionally ignoring an instructor’s safety direction may result in immediate removal from training.
A participant may also be prevented from participating where an instructor or Western JETS reasonably believes they are unable to participate safely.
Come Ready to Learn
Participants are expected to make a reasonable effort to participate in the training they have registered for.
That includes arriving on time, being prepared, following the instructor’s reasonable directions, participating in required activities, and avoiding unnecessary disruption.
Everyone learns differently and at a different pace. Participants should be willing to ask questions, share useful experience, and give other people an opportunity to learn.
Someone asking a basic question should not be mocked or discouraged from participating.
Academic and Training Integrity
Training records, assessments, certificates, and qualifications are meaningful only when the participant has genuinely completed the required work.
Do not:
- have someone else complete training or an assessment for you;
- complete an assessment for another participant;
- share restricted examination answers or assessment materials;
- falsely claim attendance or completion;
- falsify training information;
- use unauthorized materials during an assessment; or
- deliberately circumvent controls intended to protect the integrity of a course or examination.
Collaboration between participants is encouraged when the instructor permits it.
When work is intended to be completed individually, participants must complete it themselves.
Artificial Intelligence and Other Tools
AI tools can be useful for learning, research, explanations, and studying.
They must not be used to misrepresent someone else’s work as your own or to bypass the requirements of a course or assessment.
If an instructor specifies that an assignment, examination, exercise, or assessment must be completed without AI assistance, that direction must be followed.
Participants remain responsible for the accuracy and quality of anything they submit, regardless of what tools were used to create it.
Online Classes and Meetings
The same standards of conduct apply online as they do in a classroom.
During online training, participants should avoid intentionally disruptive behaviour such as repeatedly interrupting others, flooding a chat, playing unrelated audio or video, interfering with presentations, or deliberately preventing other participants from learning.
Participants should also take reasonable steps to protect information that may be visible or discussed during an online session.
Do not share meeting links, passwords, course access information, or other restricted access credentials with unauthorized people.
Respect Privacy
Do not distribute another person’s private information without a legitimate reason or their permission.
This may include:
- personal phone numbers;
- private email addresses;
- home addresses;
- membership or identification information;
- passwords or account information;
- private employment information;
- medical information; or
- other sensitive personal information.
Information obtained through a Western JETS member account, course, participant list, training activity, or communication should not be used to harass, solicit, embarrass, or target another person.
Photos and Recordings
Do not audio-record, video-record, photograph, livestream, or screen-record a Western JETS training session unless you have permission.
This protects instructors, participants, copyrighted training material, confidential discussions, and assessment content.
Where Western JETS intends to record a session, participants will be given notice or consent will be obtained where required.
Respect Training Materials
Course manuals, presentations, videos, diagrams, assessments, photographs, software, and other resources may be owned by Western JETS or by another training provider.
Having access to training material does not necessarily give you permission to publish or distribute it.
Do not upload restricted training material, examination questions, course videos, instructor materials, or other protected content to public websites, social media, file-sharing services, or other platforms without authorization.
Keep Accounts Secure
Western JETS accounts are intended for the person to whom they were issued.
Do not:
- share your password;
- allow another person to complete training through your account;
- access another participant’s account;
- impersonate another person;
- attempt to obtain another person’s login information; or
- deliberately provide false identity or eligibility information.
If you believe your account has been compromised, contact Western JETS.
Keep Western JETS Systems Safe
Do not attempt to interfere with, compromise, or gain unauthorized access to Western JETS websites, learning platforms, accounts, networks, or other systems.
This includes malware, phishing, credential theft, unauthorized automated access, attempts to bypass security controls, denial-of-service attacks, malicious scripts, or harvesting private user information.
If you discover a possible security problem, report it to Western JETS rather than exploiting it.
No Spam or Unauthorized Promotion
Western JETS systems and participant information should not be used for unsolicited advertising, mass messaging, recruitment, sales, or other unrelated commercial activity.
Relevant discussion of products, tools, employers, training resources, industry organizations, or services may naturally occur during training.
The distinction is whether the contribution is relevant to the training or whether the system is being used primarily to advertise or solicit.
Respect Facilities and Equipment
Treat Western JETS facilities, host facilities, tools, training equipment, computers, furniture, and materials with reasonable care.
Do not intentionally damage, remove, misuse, or interfere with property belonging to Western JETS, an instructor, another participant, a union local, a training provider, or a host facility.
Participants may be held responsible for deliberate damage or misuse where appropriate.
Be Honest
Do not deliberately mislead Western JETS, instructors, or other participants.
This includes knowingly providing false information concerning identity, membership, prerequisites, certifications, attendance, course completion, assessments, or eligibility for training.
Making an honest mistake is different from deliberately providing false information.
If information associated with your account is incorrect, please update it or contact Western JETS.
Disagreements and Concerns
Training sometimes involves disagreement about methods, code interpretation, industry practice, safety procedures, or other technical matters.
Participants are encouraged to ask questions and respectfully challenge an idea when they believe something is incorrect.
Disagreement should remain focused on the issue rather than becoming a personal conflict.
Where an instructor is responsible for a course, participants must follow the instructor’s reasonable directions while participating in that course.
Reporting a Problem
If another participant’s conduct creates a serious safety, harassment, discrimination, security, or training concern, report it to the instructor or Western JETS.
Where there is an immediate safety concern, bring it to the instructor’s attention as soon as possible rather than waiting until the end of the course.
Reports will be considered in context. Reporting another person does not automatically mean they have violated these guidelines.
Western JETS may request additional information when necessary to understand what occurred.
How We Respond to Problems
Western JETS will consider the seriousness, circumstances, history, and impact of a situation when deciding how to respond.
Depending on the circumstances, Western JETS may:
- speak with the people involved;
- provide a reminder or warning;
- ask a participant to change their behaviour;
- remove disruptive material or communications;
- restrict access to an online service;
- remove a participant from a class or training activity;
- suspend access to Western JETS training or online systems;
- terminate an account; or
- take immediate action where safety, security, serious misconduct, or another significant concern requires it.
A good-faith mistake will not necessarily be treated the same way as deliberate or repeated misconduct.
Serious Incidents
Western JETS may take immediate action when conduct creates a credible risk to another person’s safety, involves violence or threats, constitutes serious harassment, involves deliberate damage or theft, compromises a computer system, or may constitute unlawful activity.
Where appropriate, Western JETS may also refer a serious matter to the relevant organization or authority.
Relationship to Other Policies
These Community Guidelines work alongside other Western JETS policies and agreements, including the:
- Terms of Service;
- Privacy Policy;
- Cookie Policy;
- No Show and Cancellation Policy;
- course-specific rules and agreements;
- safety requirements; and
- rules of facilities or training providers used for a particular course.
A course, training provider, union local, facility, certification body, or other program may have additional requirements.
Where a specific program has additional rules, participants are expected to follow those requirements as well.
These Guidelines Will Evolve
Western JETS may update these Community Guidelines as its training programs, technology, facilities, and services change.
The goal is not to create a rule for every possible situation.
The goal is to provide training environments where people can ask questions, build their skills, share experience, work safely, and treat one another with respect.
Professionalism, safety, integrity, and respect are the standard.
Thank you for helping make Western JETS training a positive experience for everyone.
